It was my first semester in college and the first time I
ever left home. I hardly knew anyone in Orlando so whenever there was an
opportunity to get out and make friends, I was all over it. I was invited to go
to a student organization meeting with the promise of free food, games and a
chance to meet other freshies as well as some seasoned students. So I went and
dragged along a dorm friend with me. We sat down, waiting for the event to
begin and the next few moments later, I found myself beside the man who's never
left since.
I started the conversation exchange. Something about the
papers the meeting coordinators passed out asking us if we wanted to join a big
brother or big sister program. From there, it was the usual “what major are you
in” and “what do you do for fun around here” kind of stuff.
The meeting began; food first, then games. So we got up and
someone he knew joined us in line. “Are you going to play at the meeting?” he
asked Joshua. That sparked a little something in me and I asked him if he was
in a band. “No, I just play guitar” he
said.
Yep. There were definitely
some fireworks shooting off somewhere at that point. You see, I’ve always had a
thing for a guy who plays guitar. He swears up and down today that I was bug-eyed
the entire time we talked about it. I deny it every time, but deep inside, I
know it’s true.
The meeting ended and we exchanged names again before leaving.
That night, we both walked away with smiles on our faces and a new day to look
forward to.

Yep... I know just how that feels. I walked away from meeting my to-be husband with the thought, "If I move to Boston, I think I'll date this guy. Maybe even marry him." And as I stood up, Elliott prayed that I would move to Boston for just that reason.
ReplyDeleteAnd I did move to Boston. And the rest is history.
Aww that is so sweet, it was just meant to be :) So happy for you both!
DeleteI just stumbled upon your blog and I found that you used to live in Orlando, where I currently live. I adore your photos, definitely a new follower here.
ReplyDeleteI moved to Orlando without knowing anyone (except my boyfriend - who is now my fiance) and it was quite thrilling to have my new love and a new city. We actually met at UCF at the Displace Me event back in 2007, before I even moved to Orlando for him. I'd say it worked out quite well, considering 5 1/2 years later we are engaged :) I love love stories.
Thank you! We actually met at UCF too! What a small world! Congrats on your engagement :)
DeleteAw this is so cute! I met my boyfriend in college, too, but not until my Junior year. It took us two years of being friends before we started dating, too!
ReplyDeleteLife Unsweetened
I loved reading this post as it made me smile to think of when I first met my hubby.
ReplyDeleteWe met through an awesome mutual friend who was dead set on hooking us up. I'm glad he was persistent because now we have been married for six and half years (but together for nine and half)!!!
oh my goodness...what a sweet story. I love your tale.
ReplyDeleteI actually JUST celebrated my first wedding anniversary with my husband. It's ironic...when I first met him, we didn't exactly click..not so much because we weren't nice to each other, but because I wasn't looking for anyone like him. Slowly, we developed a friendship and then a close friendship, and then...we started dating. It was such a gradual and yet fast transition that before I knew what happened, I was in love. Guess it really sneaks up on you if you aren't looking.

ReplyDeleteHow fun! I met my boyfriend when some of my housemates invited him for lunch at our house. When we were introduced all I remember thinking was 'Oh, another one of those boring engineers!' Ha! We've been together for almost three years!
