In my parent's backyard, my dad built a house for his orchids a couple years ago. And his collection continues to go grow. There are so many types of orchids back there. There are even some with flowers that smell like coconut. A few plants already started blooming, I'm not sure if they are just confused because of the spring weather we have going on, or if this is the time of the year it's supposed to start blooming.
It may not look like much now, but when spring roll around, this house will be full of color and beautiful blooms.
*And when I look at this, I so admire my parents for their green thumb and hard work creating such a beautiful place in our backyard. I really need to spend some time with them to learn the tricks of the trade so I can create a garden of my own some day.
Those samall ruby ones are my favorite! I went to a small orchid show last month and they were just so beautiful and delicate. I wish I had more sun so I could have a few of my own again!

Oh don't forget to show it again in spring to us! By the amount of plants it must look really beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteThis makes me think of my dad!! We lived in southeast Asia for several years, and we used to sit in the car (me often with my eyes rolling) as he shimmied up a tree to cut a wild orchid from it to bring home and add to his collection. We'd all have to come out and exclaim how beautiful each new acquisition was. But they really were so exquisite! Lovely photos on this post!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! Your dad made an amazing house for the orchids! I've always loved orchids and how unique they are. I think I could spend all afternoon in an orchid house with a good book :)
ReplyDeleteI am such a sucker for houseplants and my Mom almost always has a beautiful orchid blooming on the windowsill but I've never seen them outdoors. These are beautiful!
