In the pursuit of happiness

I recently picked up a new book called The Happiness Project. I've been wanting to start reading again and I've heard amazing things about this one. I'm not spiraling down in any sort of depression, but I'm in the pursuit of happiness, as I'm sure many of us are. What makes me truly happy? What do I want from life? How do I get there? wherever that is.

As a somewhat recent college graduate, I'm in a sticky situation of looking for my "true calling". The pressure of growing up and not really knowing the direction of where I want to go in life is pretty tough. Know the feeling?

It can be a dark rain cloud some days, but the sunshine always comes back.

A couple of months ago, I watched a video on TED on The Happy Secret to Better Work by Shawn Achor. If you have 13 minutes, I suggest watching it. He makes really great points and will get you laughing at the same time. But one thing he mentioned that got me thinking was his point on retraining our brain to become more positive. Taking just a few minutes of out your day to write down three things you are grateful for for 21 days in a row can do just that. I've thought about it and thought about it, but now that I've jumped on this happiness journey, I'm going to go ahead and start a journal.

There's so much more to life than getting bogged down on the little stuff. So, I'm starting my own happiness project and finding what that means to me.

Are you on the pursuit of happiness too, or have you already found it? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. What a lovely post - thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I am also in pursuit of happiness, having recovered from depression. I don't want to live my life without feeling the purpose or self-assessing myself - what I want from life, what I'm passionate about etc. I used to write what I'm grateful for, but then I stopped - I think it's the best time I come back to it, as it definitely help see and appreciate the little things in life. And I might actually pick this book up - I've heard so much about it, but never got a chance to order it. I know will! :)

  3. This is on my reading list! I follow the authors blog and enjoy that, so I assume the book is similar. I think everyone is searching for happiness- even those of us who already consider ourselves happy people.

  4. I've read The Happiness Project and really enjoyed it. The author has a daily newsletter that I signed up for which includes happiness quotes, I love it because it's a daily reminder to stop and think about happiness. I graduated from college 5 years ago and I still have no idea what my "true calling" is, but exploring different methods of discovering it is interesting. Good luck!

I have the same sentiments about finishing college and wanting to start that new chapter of my life the right way - in pursuit of what makes me happy :)
