Welcome back to Monday! I was incredibly anxious all last week for the weekend, even though I had nothing planned. But that's just how it goes I guess. I got my haircut, got an incredible deal on workout gear from Gap (5 bucks!!) and grabbed brunch at Bowled. But probably the most exciting thing I did was bake these Batman cupcakes with my baking buddy, Kimmy. It was the opening weekend for The Dark Knight Rises, so why not?
We made it with yellow cake and homemade buttercream. While they were baking, we cut out the Batman shapes out of fondant using stencils I cut out from thick paper. We stood over the fondant and traced along the stencil for what felt like an eternity... it was so much harder than we anticipated. The fondant would stretch easily and distort the shape. I had to go back and fix the edges after they were all cut out, otherwise they would be "fuzzy" as we called it. A Batman cookie cutter would've been the smart thing to have on hand for this.
I have to confess though. I didn't get to see the movie this weekend for an even more embarrassing reason... I didn't watch the other 2 movies. I am such a procrastinator! But to my defense, I watched Batman Begins Saturday night. Better late than never :)
PS. Interesting cupcake liners, eh? surprised me too...

You forgot to mention the butt load of gel coloring we used to get "batman yellow" icing!! :)
ReplyDeleteOye, you're right! We needed it to be BATMAN yellow and did everything we needed to, to get that done!
DeleteThese batman cupcakes are great! I can understand the difficulty of fondant though - I have such a difficult time molding it for my decorations. Yours came out looking fantastic, though, so it must have been worth all that work! ^^
