From Over the Weekend: New Orleans

The best kind of trips are the kind that happen out of nowhere. Midweek, a friend of mine suggested we skip town for a few days to drive up to New Orleans and clear our minds on the open road. Me, never one to say no to getaways, said yes; we packed our bags and left.

It was a bit more chilly there than I anticipated. But I had so much fun walking through the French Quarter, eating cajun/creole foods, photographing and drinking down Bourbon Street. I'll have to share more photos of my stay there soon! Everything was so charming and the colors on the homes and buildings were so fun.

While I was there... it felt so nostalgic, even though I've never been there. It was like experiencing a trip out of someone else's chapter.

Over The Weekend: Limbo

Bloggy world... I've returned.

Overall, the weekend air cooled down and my heart softened.

There's nothing that makes a Floridian happier than finally feeling a cool breeze in autumn. The leaves haven't turned golden yet, but when you walk outside and it's under 70 degrees... that's bliss. Unfortunately for us, it's only temporary. Cold front trolls.

So this weekend was both a mix of highs and lows. While there were disappointments, there wasn't a thing that stopped me from having a great weekend. Plans fall through, but it's how you pick up from there that counts. Friday was an early day for me, so I took a day trip to Orlando with a girlfriend. It's incredible the amount of things we accomplished in a few hours of being there. The rest of the weekend was spent with family and in silence. I also started watching Breaking Bad a few weeks ago. I am so late in the game, y'all, but I can see why there was so much buzz about the show.

Speaking of shows, I am pretty excited for more season premieres happening in the upcoming days: Walking Dead and American Horror Story. Although... with Walking Dead, I feel that the plot has plateaued, took a deep nose dive even... but it's one of those shows that I want to stick through despite how bad it's become. I just need to know what happens.

Over the Weekend: Drifting

This was a long weekend for me! I just got back yesterday afternoon from a little weekend cruise with old and new friends. I set sail on Thursday en route to the Bahamas. It was my first time on a cruise and I have to say it won't be my last.

Having the chance to unplug for a bit was great. I have to admit that being a social media fiend that I am, not having cellular service nor being connected was a little disconcerting. I found myself still opening my twitter app sometimes knowing I didn't have service. Just out of habit. It's terrible, I know.

Being around so many friends was also great. 18 of them to be exact on this sort-of reunion of friends. Gosh, the stories that we could tell of the trip...

I've had a lot on my mind lately, so this was also perfectly timed to be around people and exciting escapades to keep me distracted for a little bit. So many things are happening so quickly over here that it's hard for me to keep up. I feel a bit like a drifter as I bounce from one chapter to the next... as things start changing before it all settles down.

How do you adjust when you're so used to being in a lull of routine? Every once in a while something happens to shake you out of that cycle. You're spinning with no idea where to look to catch yourself again. It's terrifying not knowing where you're going, but also exciting to know you're going somewhere.

How was your weekend, friends?

Over the Weekend: Discovery

I love St. Petersburg. I don't know if you can tell or not. I love my downtown, I love the people, I love our location by the water and I love telling people about this hidden gem of a city. I'm so thankful to call this place home. This weekend I rolled out of bed at 7:30 sharp and explored areas I've never ventured. There's always something new to see here and another place to fall in love with. I have so many places I want to share with you, so please bear with me and follow along!

I had a very fun and very unexpected dream come true yesterday. I always wanted to see myself on the local news, and while I was out loving St. Pete and taking pictures of Roser Park (more to come soon!), I was asked to be interviewed by a reporter nearby. It was a very fun experience to both be on camera and to see myself on the news. I'm trying to get a clip of the segment from Baynews 9, but here's a link to the article where I was quoted.

Things are on the up and up in these parts. My heart is so warm, so now tell me, how was your weekend?

Over the Weekend: Absolution

Nothing probably feels better than a lightened spirit. A readjusted focus means bringing back some things I've forgotten about or neglected over the past few months. So I've let go of negative energy and circumstances alike to find more ways to fill my time up with creativity.

Thanks to Visit St. Pete Clearwater and Hubbards Marina and some friends, I had the opportunity to join others on a sunset cruise out of John's Pass. Being a tourist in your own city can be pretty fun.

From over the weekend: 4th of July

A very belated Happy Birthday America! We needed a whole weekend to celebrate, and so a three day weekend we received.

I hope everyone enjoyed Independence Day and the long weekend. My day began because my alarm clock didn't realize it was a holiday, so I was up bright and early. Drinks in hand all day even as the fireworks lit up the night sky and even after. Not one picture was taken all night... sadly.

The rest of my weekend was a blur of rain and thunder and soccer and reading and dressing up and coffee and dinner parties. It didn't even feel like a 3 day weekend... but do they ever?

Over the Weekend: Savannah

This past weekend, I packed a duffel bag and headed up to Savannah with my cousin for the weekend. Just a short weekend getaway like we used to have years ago. It didn't matter where we went, so long as we went somewhere and gave ourselves a much needed mental break from everything we were leaving back in the Tampa Bay area. Plus a little bonding never hurt.

I just uploaded the pictures I took and I'm quite excited to share them soon. Savannah is just a charming town and I loved everything about it. The history, the buildings, the scene and the people. I was fumbling between three cameras the entire time, talk about being a tourist.

In other news:
I picked up my tumblr account again. Follow me mreowlynn.tumblr.com :)
I tried my hand at film during my time in Savannah, so we will see how that turns out once I get it developed.
I discovered Molly's blog last week and I just love it.

First weekend of the summer

Happy summer!

On Sunday, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to lay out by the water in our beautiful downtown St. Petersburg. Who could stay inside on such a pretty, sunny day? So I packed some fruit, a book and a blanket and picked up iced tea for a little afternoon to myself.

I laid beneath the tree, soaking in the warmth of the sun that passed through as the leaves danced in the wind. Thoughts came and went like each cresting wave. In an ideal world, I would spend all my summer afternoons like this. I don't think I could ever get enough of this waterfront view or the tranquility here.

Over the Weekend: Exploration

What are weekends for if not to make the most of every hour with friends? That was exactly what this past weekend was about. Staying up through the night (morning?) and waking up early to start the shenanigans all over again. I loved it!

A group of friends and I explored the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks after our planned pontoon boat adventures went awry on Saturday morning. We had a great lesson about sponges... Did you know they don't grow bacteria or mold? So I bought a couple and replaced my loofah.

I also visited the Chihuly Collection. Such beautiful and intricate pieces! I really want to try my hand at glass blowing, for fun!

From Over the Weekend: New York

I went on a short getaway trip to New York to visit some friends and to step away from ho-hum weekends here at home. I was hoping the weather would have been much warmer than it was (high 30's and 40's) but it was a lovely weekend nevertheless!

**Apparently Saturday was National Pillow Fight Day, so I had the chance to witness a park full of people clubbing each other with fluffy pillows. There's always something interesting to see and do in the City isn't there?

More on New York later!

Let's be happy it's the weekend!

I am so excited for this week to come to a close! There are so many things happening this weekend that I have been waiting for. One is the opening of Brocante, which is a new vintage market opening in St. Petersburg that happens only two days of the month. It’s a beautiful venture and a collaboration of like-minded vintage enthusiasts and treasure hunters. I’m WAY excited for this.

I’ll also be on my way to Orlando afterwards to visit some college friends traveling in from across the country for a mini reunion.

A couple links worth mentioning:
Check out Brocante’s website, maybe you’ll see a familiar photo? J
This Paris loft with a tree!
H&M online store finally opens in the US.
These breakfast burgers… maybe one day I’ll make it for my Sunday breakfast.

Have a great weekend! What are your plans?

No rain or cold temperatures in the forecast! It honestly feels like summer already. I see fruity popsicles and sand castles in the near future! :)

Time is a funny thing.

via Instagram
There are times when life is just zooming by, and then other days when it seems to never move along. A few days ago, couple of friends and I chatted about our days back in high school. You know, the conversations that start like "Oh, remember that one time when..." and ended with "yeah... I can't believe that happened so long ago!" or "we are so old now". Time sure does seem to fly during these kinds of conversations. And then in the middle of the week when all that talk about how fast time is moving fizzles out, it shifted gears and slowed back down. Dragging along until the weekend.

It happens right? But that's why there's the weekend! And I'm aaaalllllll about the weekend.

In other news:
I'm in the process of designing my friend's wedding programs. Oh bridesmaid duties. :)
My Ipsy Glam Bag finally came in the mail yesterday!

I'm so glad it's the weekend. I'll be spending time with Joshua :) since he is coming to visit me. I can't remember the last time we saw each other for back to back weekends! Oh long distance... Thank you for making it a big deal every time we see each other.

In other news...
I've organized my Pinterest boards

Weekend Update

Excuse the poor quality photos from my iPhone! These are just a few bits and pieces of my weekend. Unfortunately I did not take as many pictures as I would've liked as the weekend in Miami was pretty short. Most of my weekend consisted of driving anyway. And the hotel that we stayed at... well... that's another story I would not like to get into. Still shuddering thinking about it. I am just thankful that this weekend was spent with friends and finally seeing Joshua again.

The two things my weekend really consisted of: (lots of) eating and being silly.

By the Pond

This past weekend was spent in Orlando catching up with college friends and celebrating a birthday, which included a bounce house and all. Growing up is just not as daunting when you can look forward to having a party with 10+ adults jumping around and laughing hysterically. When we took a break from the jumping, we made our way towards a little pond and caught guppies in a red cup, blew bubbles and flew a kite tied to the fishing pole.

Weekends are for more than being lazy

As much as I would love to spend my weekend like the last, I’m going to stay productive and try to get out of the house. So for starters, I’m going to start volunteering for some causes I believe in and want to support. After lounging around all weekend doing nothing (even though it was really nice and much needed), I realize that I could be doing more and using my time in a meaningful way. I'm really excited to start helping out the St. Petersburg community!

Have a great weekend, friends!

Photo is from my instagram. Let’s connect over there and on twitter too!

Weekend Tidbits

computer
Double keyboards because when Joshua visits, he does not using the small Mac keyboard.
He was here last weekend, I just haven’t put it away yet.
re-reading kinfolk
I was re-reading some Kinfolk essays and one told me to stay in bed, so I did
honey granola
I made a fresh batch of honey granola to last the week. I hope.
watching hulu on ipad
Joshua got me an iPad for my birthday so I’ve been catching up on some shows on Hulu. Anyone watch Cult? (I also had to get a
Joshua-approved iPad case because he knows my butter fingerish ways. And since I broke 2 things over the
weekend just hours apart, I am glad I listened)
plants
I am happy to say my air plants are still alive.
I stayed in most of the weekend, mostly because it was freezing and 20 degrees way below normal temperatures. Each morning started off gray and then slowly the clouds dissipated as the sun made its late appearance. Mornings like that make the day feel longer doesn’t it? Even though I woke up at 8 (usually the sun is shining through my windows at this point) I felt like I woke up at 6 with how dark it was. It’s unfortunate though that the cooler temperatures won’t stay around for much longer. I really liked having an excuse to wear my coats and fuzzy socks.

Florida State Fair

The Florida State Fair is in town! We stopped by Saturday afternoon; it was my first time going since high school probably 7 years ago. I was fearless about fair rides then. But now, I'm more hesitant about riding them and opted to just explore the fair grounds instead. It’s a lot bigger now than I remembered it being and has a lot more animals (a baby giraffe and a black bear?) It was random and cool. We walked a lot, enjoyed the attractions (not the rides) and shared a red velvet funnel cake. Yes... I caved on the greasy fried fair food, but it was red velvet...

This alpaca had me rolling. He's such a charmer isn't he?
fried foods of all kinds.
Ferris wheel of course.

013 // Sunday Breakfast

fried egg toast

Joshua and I had a really active weekend celebrating my birthday (thank you all for the sweet birthday wishes!) and Valentine's Day. It was one activity after another and there was hardly any time for us to just be. It was a great weekend nonetheless, and especially since Joshua and I haven't seen each other for a while, it was good that we had the chance to do a lot of things in just a couple days.

So, unlike past Sundays when I had the morning all to myself, yesterday we woke up early to get ready to go to Busch Gardens with our friends. So I whipped us up a quick egg and toast breakfast to carry us through to midday, and we were out the door. It was roller coasters, water rides and sun tanning all day.
